Moderat - Rusty Nails

I'm sure I've posted this maybe three times before but I found the lyrics.

Unbroken speech
You tricked me on shaky ground
Don't tell me
How it feels like walking on rusty nails
But the pain's not mine
When we collide down is the only way out
'Cause hell's above
I try to focus on anything but the strain inside
So words rise while I touch the sky
Won't stay long
Just passing by
But you talked it away
You talked it away ..

We're playing a gig tomorrow in The Pint. It's going to be mega good fun.

We're playing with:

Chewing On Tinfoil
Willow (First show, Fleex Foxes vibe)
Daniel Fox (Never heard him, looking forward to it)

We're playing a new bit tomorrow too. Stevie wrote it and we're using it an as intro to the set, we'll play it right into Jonah. When Stevie wrote it, it was different, I promise. Now it sounds like a mega Sigur Ros rip off. I don't mind, it sounds good to my ears and I enjoy playing it, we'll change it if it becomes a song.

I'm kind of debating how I should play it though, I get two rounds with Ben of it being played at its fullest volume. I'm thinking slide(ish) then octaves second time round but I found some really odd chords that work too, might just leave those until we record it. It's such a small part (the whole piece) so it's no biggie.

As well as Stevie, I have another best friend who I don't talk about as much, he's Scott. That was us, the three of us started playing music together and played our first gig ever with each other. Scott, and I don't think anybody who knows him will mind me saying, is the finest musician I know.

He's a guitarist, Stevie and I both play two instruments and I have no qualms in saying I am and always was the runt of the litter, those guys can play. Scott though, fucking Scott. Did you ever hear someone saying that tone is in the fingers? Well this dude has it, taste, talent, tits for brains (ah no, he's actually a genius too).

Anyway, he's never going to read this so I can say what I want! He's going to Chicago for four months with his college mates, that'll be the longest I have't seen him since I met him first in 2001. It only dawned on me today in the studio tonight how badly I'm going to miss him. I sat down and listened to Stevie and Scott playing tonight, I didn't pick up a guitar or a bass, would have ruined it. I sneakily pressed record on my phone, I was in a fucking studio, I could easily have set up a mic, anyway.

I hit record and I'm not going to listen to it for a couple of days, I don't know why. It's there though. They were just jamming it out on some improvised chord progression, then some left of centre blues, then I asked them to play an old favourite of all three of ours', Little Wing. They played it so well. I'll put it up here depending on the sound quality.

My fucking word do I love those lads, I would have nothing to do with music still if it wasn't for them, more than Pink Floyd, more than Red Enemy. Oh and by the by, after all the last couple years business, those two have been right fucking there.

Oh man, I'm definitely going to write a post of all the mischief we used to get up to. LADS.

There are four great songs. I'm going to bed, I have a long day tomorrow.

I wish I was going on tour with Forced Out.

Iron Maiden, Ice Cube & Leftfield

Leftfield live at Homelands 2000 by moo-ne

Here's a set I found through Nialler9, it's a really good site, especially if you're from Ireland. There's a lot that I wouldn't agree with or necessarily be into but it's a well versed view on a lot of music.

Anyway, that Leftfield set is deadly.

This morning I listened to Powerslave by Iron Maiden, I'm currently listening to Ice Cube - The Predator.
This is Plastic man, well it's not, it's Plastician now. I deviated from my listening vibe to get this. The first track did so well, I was really enjoying it, drop into the second song lost me. Nevertheless, I'll give the whole thing a spin. It's pretty grimey, not a lot of deepstep (I love making up words for genres) but as yuo can see, there are a couple of household names on that track list . Some people might enjoy it.

01 Youthman & Luce – Brother Don’t Cry
02 Redlight – MDMA
03 D Double E – Woo Riddim
04 Flux Pavillion – Got To Know
05 Boogaloo Crew – Days Go By
06 Skream – Raw Dogz
07 Joker – Tron (Kromestar Remix)
08 Chew Lips – Salt Air (Plastician Remix)
09 Trolley Snatcha – We Rock The Forest
10 G Tank – Electonic Era
11 Rude Kid – Electric
12 Plastician & 12th Planet – West
13 12th Planet feat Juakali – Reas
14 D Double E – Streetfighter
15 Joker & TC – It Aint Got A Name
16 Om Unit – Searching
17 Benga – Transform
18 Drumsound & Bassline Smith – R1
19 SMD – Cruel Intentions (Joker Remix)
20 Doctor P – Sweet Shop
21 P Money – Left The Room (Skream Remix)

Benga - Pleasure EP

I was writing a little bit there about that EP and why I liked it, as I was going through it, I started liking it less and less. I used to prefer the old version of 'Loose Synths' but the version on Diary Of An Afroman is clearly better.

Anyway, this is the only tune I want to post from Benga tonight.

OH YEAH! Today I had a really nice walk through the park, down into the Furry Glen and back up to the Mount Sackville gate, completely forgetting that area is rent boy city.

As I was walking out of from under the canopy there was a pretty stocky early 30 something lad walking towards me, he was looking at me so I gave him a nod and said hello.

I continued to walk and I heard him whistle quietly after me, I turned around and he beckoned me to come after him with his hand. I shook my head and kept going. He whistled again but this time I had my key in between my index and middle finger and he must have copped it because he turned and walked away.

I went home and saw three lads getting questioned by undercover Gardaí in bulletproof vests. It was really odd, Chapelizod is usually dead quiet and full of old people.

I really do love living here. I made some tasty spaghetti and watched more Firefly.

The Usual

Israel, I don't know what I can say that hasn't already be said, nor do I want to say focus on one thing and have it look like I miss the point. In general though, fuck you.

When I heard the Ambassador to Ireland's statement on the news and I was fuming. I can't find it online anywhere, I'm sure it'll be on the 9 o'clock news.

Nick Clegg condemned the Israeli government last year, he's been very quiet so far today, prick.

Nick Clegg, you are a prick. Fight me.

In other news, today I watched more Firefly, I played a really good game of Civ4, then my laptop died. I ate, tried again and was triumphant.

I've listened to 6.9 hours of music today so far. Listening to everything I own is turning out to be a monstrous challenge.

I listened to Paramore at the Brixton Academy in 2008, this tour I think.

It's only alright, there's nothing really new about what this band do and I still don't think I like it, apart from a few catchy hooks.

Then I listened to Parasite by See You Next Tuesday which is just fucking silly, quite entertaining though.

Then a little bit of a change of tone, the magnifique Django Reinhardt & Steph√°ne Grapelli on Parisian Swing, a two disc album. The most memorable track for me for some reason is After You've Gone.

Then it was on to Crowbar, a compilation called Past & Present. It's got the live version of Self Inflicted on it. It's not this version though, Kirk's vocals are better on the version I have.

Then I listened to a Luciano Pavarotti album entitled Pavarotti, I can only assume it's a greatest hits of some description. Of all the tenors I've heard, Pavarotti's voice doesn't do it for me, he does however, sing some incredible songs. Don't ask me what tenors I prefer, I've just heard a fair few more that have voices that suit me better.

Up next was Eagles Of Death Metal' album 'Peace Love Death Metal' which is ok, it's quite middle of the road-y though isn't it? There weren't any tracks that jumped out at me, mind you, conquering the world in Civ4 may have been distracting.

Oh yeah, I listened to Provokief's 'Peter And The Wolf' for the first time since sitting in Music class in first year (Class: 1M, Classroom: C1, Teacher: Miriam Wright) Gas.

Now I'm listening to Tchaikovsky's 'Allegro Brillante' I am enjoying it thoroughly. I hope whoever called me pretentious reads this and is having a right old titter to him or herself.

This is a different and incomplete version. I wish Youtube would lift the time restriction on videos. I still can't believe it's only been a site for 5 years!

I'll probably update again tonight after I listen to loads more.

Tonight I went to see the Awake Young Soldiers single launch, I walked around Dublin for most of the evening because I wasn't feeling too hot being in a pub, I get like that some days. Anyway, I missed AYS because I had to get the last bus. Lame.

I got home feeling really angry, but not at missing the gig, I don't know what it was over. I was swinging air punches, it was really stupid and I'm glad it's gone away.

I started watching Firefly. It's great. I love these kinds of shows, I'm being told it's better than BSG in terms of the story etc. but I don't believe it.

Also, how great were these movies. I am going to download them and be a kid again, I think I was always a little too old to have been enjoying them as much as I did but I don't care. A Goofy Movie rocked as well. Fucking Powerline!

"My name is Chance. I know, it sounds odd, but most names do if you think about it long enough... maybe even yours. I was abandoned when I was very young. I lived on the streets scranging for food sleeping wherever I could; that seemed like fun at first, but pretty soon, it landed me behind bars. But I don't like to talk about that; let's talk about after that... when I got my second chance... and my name. You see, this family came along, and I guess you can say they rescued me, because they adopted me and brought me to live at their house. But it was their home, not mine. Still, it was an improvement over that other place: lots of space, fresh air, plenty interesting things to explore, and all the underwear I could eat."

I'm going to go to Pukklepop this summer, I'm going to try get into Life too.
